The 2015 outbreak of the Zika virus diseases has been declared a public health emergency of international concern. Even though vector-borne transmission is the predominant route for the spread of the disease, the sexual route has also been identified as an essential mode, predominantly because most cases are asymptomatic in their presentation. There is an immense need that all stakeholders should aim to bridge the existing gap and mitigate the risk of acquiring the infection by strengthening awareness activities. To conclude, the Zika virus disease is a major public health threat and it becomes even more important due to the potential threat of international spread. It is the need of the hour to strengthen sexual and reproductive health services, especially for the benefit of vulnerable communities.
