Vascular anomalies are disorders of the endothelium and surrounding cells that can affect the vasculature and involve any anatomical structure. The field of vascular anomalies is confusing because (1) numerous types of vascular anomalies exist, (2) different lesions often look similar, and (3) many practitioners use imprecise terminology. The complexity in diagnosing and therefore managing the pathology has been largely assorted due to its varied spectrum of presentation. Knowledge of the classification, clinical and imaging characteristics, swift recognition and appropriate multidisciplinary management become paramount in treating these vascular anomalies. However, despite improvements in the management of vascular anomalies, these disorders continue to cause significant morbidity and their etiopathogenesis remains poorly understood.
