An assignment in Florence finds Julia surrounded by a shadowy underground sex trafficking ring, threatening not only Julia but also those around her. At the turn of the millennium, Julia decides to make a change and pursue her passion for freelance photography and writing. Her first assignment takes her to Florence, where she reconnects with Robert, a former boyfriend. Things take a dark turn, however, when she unwittingly becomes entangled in a dangerous underground world of sex trafficking and violence. Then Robert disappears. Julia's search for answers leads her to become involved with police officer Nic Rossi, who is investigating the trafficking ring in the wake of his wife's disappearance.
