The freshwater gastropod Omphiscola glabra (pond mud snail) is known for its limited geographical range in Western Europe and the present decline in the number and size of its populations. Since the 1990s, several research programmes were running on this species to answer the following questions: What are the characteristics of snail habitats? Is the snail an intermediate host for digeneans? How do the snail viscera respond to parasite infection or chemical intoxication? Can the snail be raised in the laboratory? What are the measures to ensure the conservation of this species? This book provides a synthesis of different works published from the twentieth century to the present day. It will interest malacologists, parasitologists or ecologists.
