The House of Atreus is a collection of three plays by the ancient Greek playwright Aeschylus: Agamemnon, Libation-Bearers, and Furies. These plays follow the story of the cursed House of Atreus, beginning with the return of King Agamemnon from the Trojan War and his subsequent murder by his wife Clytemnestra and her lover Aegisthus. The second play follows the vengeance of Agamemnon's children, Orestes and Electra, as they plot to kill their mother and her lover. The final play deals with the aftermath of the murders, as the Furies, goddesses of vengeance, pursue Orestes and drive him to seek absolution for his crimes. The House of Atreus is a classic example of Greek tragedy, exploring themes of revenge, justice, and the consequences of actions. This edition, translated into English in 1889, remains a popular choice for students and scholars of ancient Greek literature. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
