The Hecuba of Euripides is a tragic play written by the ancient Greek playwright Euripides. It was first performed in Athens in 424 BC and tells the story of Hecuba, the former queen of Troy, who is now a slave to the Greeks after the fall of her city. The play explores themes of revenge, betrayal, and the consequences of war. Hecuba seeks revenge against the Greeks for the death of her son, Polydorus, who was murdered by the Greek king, Polymestor. With the help of her daughter, Polyxena, and the ghost of her son, Hecuba plots her revenge against Polymestor. However, the plan backfires and Hecuba is left to face the consequences of her actions. The play is a powerful exploration of the human condition and the devastating effects of war. This edition of the play was translated into English by E. P. Coleridge and was first published in 1865.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
