Facial injuries in children are considered separately because of special problems that arise in their treatment and management. Children, like adults are subject to similar types of injuries and trauma, but their capacity for healing in the shortest possible time with a minimum of complications and the inherent ability to adapt to new situations are quite different from adults. However, facial injuries in children are much less common than in adults, particularly during the first five years of age. It is not until the age of puberty that the frequency and pattern of such injuries begin to parallel those seen in adults.
