At the core of "sustainable development" is the idea of intergenerational equity in the face of diminishing natural resources and a declining capacity of ecosystems to absorb emissions and increasing environmental degradation. The concept demands to be able to lead a safe and autonomous life. It is based on the assumption of securing or restoring the basis of life for all today and in the future. "Sustainable development" depends on design spaces of the ecosystem, social system and cultural spaces. The transformation to a sustainable society is a knowledge-based and ethically-oriented factual, learning and experiential process.
