This dissertation focuses on the objective of M&A as a strategy undertaken by the Indian commercial banks for business expansion that can access inorganic growth. However, this is not necessary that the commercial banks be opting for the M&A. An as a strategy is a success to obtain both operating performance and shareholder value of the acquiring companies. Therefore, to determine if M&A is a successful strategy chosen by the banks in India serves as a research objective for this dissertation. A detailed study and analysis are conducted in this dissertation comparing the Indian commercial bank's performance before and after the M&A. The performance will be measured through the stock price responses of these banks before M&A and after M&A and compare it with stock prices. This research and analysis will develop a perspective of success and failure for Indian commercial banks M&A as a strategy for the performance of acquiring companies. Uniform to conduct research and to arrive at an accurate conclusion, the dissertation focuses on M&A and cases of Indian banks. Event studies stock price analysis (accounting method), and financial-analysis method.
