Chennai, the most fastest growing city in India, one of the top five cities generating highest municipal waste and its management is still a problem faced locally, regionally and globally as well. The study has been done to understand the awareness and attitude of the residents of Chennai. It seems that only a few people are aware of terms recycle and composting, but littering is still a persistent problem in Chennai. There is lack of recycling centers, long-term awareness campaigns, information sources on the side effects of improper waste disposal. The growing younger generation must be taught of solid waste management. Encouraging and Imprinting awareness on solid waste management from an early age would definitely bring about a change in near future. Securing green and clean environment is our duty.
