Esthetics has become increasingly important feature of modern restorative dentistry and is synonymous with a natural, harmonious appearance. An attractive or pleasing smile clearly enhances the acceptance of an individual in our society by improving the initial impression in inter personal relationship. A defective smile might be considered properly as a physical handicap. The smile in one of the most important facial expression and is essential in expressing friendliness, agreement and appreciation. Often the demand for esthetics motivates the patient to seek treatment. The esthetic appeal of small variations, irregularities and asymmetries in a smile is immensely due to its naturalness. With the knowledge and appreciation of various types of beauty a dentist should be aware of the parameter of ideal beauty and should have a set of deviation as present in natural beauty within the confines of which he should decide his ultimate esthetic goal.
