In this bilingual German-English story, the fates of three German soldiers intertwine with those of a British officer and his wife in the waning months of World War II. Physically and emotionally maimed, Lord Sandwell returns home from the front to find his wife Ernestine completely altered by her service on the Home Front. To make matters worse, the War Office appoints him to be the commandant of a POW camp.
