AIDS is the abbreviation for acquired immune deficiency syndrome. The disease is caused by virus known as human immunodeficiency virus. Oral manifestations are the earliest and most important indicators of HIV infection. Oral lesions can not only indicate infection with HIV, they are also among the early clinical features of the infection and can predict progression of HIV disease to AIDS. Treatment of HIV patient involves trying to slow or stop the virus from spreading in the body¿s cells and treating or preventing disease that develop when a person¿s immune system has been damaged by the virus.Dental expertise is necessary for proper management of oral manifestations in HIV infection. Medical clinicians should be able to recognize HIV associated oral disease and to provide appropriate care and referral.
