Knygos aprašymas

The present study applied a numerical model to investigate various configurations of the perched beach including submergence ratio of the breakwater, groin with/without gap, the gap width/location and emerged/submerged groin. These configurations have been compared from the point of view of wave heights, currents velocities, flushing and shoreline changes to develop general guidelines for the design of similar constructions. An actual scale model of a perched beach designed and constructed to provide a safe swimming conditions. The project area is constructed along the North-West coast of Alexandria in Egypt. The latter area has long been suffered from rip currents as large as 0.7m/sec and limited safe swimming strip of less than 40m during the prevailing wave conditions in the summer season. Field measurements carried out before construction of the perched beach, and it is considered as the baseline condition.
