The user interface is essential for making a successful application. Nonetheless, studies have shown that a large percentage of the software development effort can be dedicated to the interface, which is not a sustainable solution. The software industry invested in the creation of development tools to overcome this issue. There was a particular interest in model-based methodologies, since they reuse artefacts of the application's development to automatically create the interface. However the automation on these methodologies tend to have a negative impact on the interface and its implementation. The MODUS (Model-based Developed User Systems) approach is a solution for this problem. Its main premise is to assume that, for specific domains, the interface can be built from a description of the application data. The business models allow the creation of solid skeletons for the interface, which can be iteratively refined by the designer.
