A number of books were written on loanwords, but this one is different. Most others talk on how languages borrow from each other: they illustrate concepts and theoretical issues. This book presents an empirical data from historical contacts and shows how a single language- Kanuri borrowed from three different languages- Hausa, Arabic and English. The differentials in loanwords indicate the level of contact and subsequent adaptation.
