Interest and Connection in the Eighteenth Century: Hervey, Johnson, Smith, Equiano

Can a single word explain the world? In the British eighteenth century, interest comes close: it lies at the foundation of the period's thinking about finance, economics, politics, psychology, and aesthetics.
