?Available for the first time in book form is a compendium of information on aging programs abroad, gathered by the chief author (with the help of two assistants) in her capacity as editor of Ageing International. The theme of the book is that there are well-tested programs for older people in other industrialized countries that the US could profitably study and apply. All of the programs described are carefully documented and well referenced. The final chapter lists ten programs and policy options (none high in cost) that would benefit older Americans if tried here. The challenge is for decisionmakers to investigate these options and begin to develop a coherent national policy toward older people. The book is well written, nicely printed, and well indexed. It is of major interest to social gerontologists, and to students in gerontology programs, both graduate and undergraduate.?-Choice
