At a time when racial struggles and inequality permeate society, Maggie and James come together to learn and understand the challenges faced by the Black community and the many inaccuracies told about Black persons in the United States. This book is a eye opening experience for White Americans who have failed to look through the eyes of another. James Stone is a successful Black man living in Charlotte, North Carolina. He has seen the world in a way that is painful, heartbreaking, and terrifying. I Can Finally See is a story about viewing his reality through his eyes. In the United States, the Black population is charged with 37.5 percent of Violent Crime and 28.1 percent of Property Crime and the White population is charged with 59 percent of Violent Crime and 68.7 percent of Property Crime. Black Men only comprise 7.4 percent of the U.S. Population, but are almost half of the prison population. A Black Man is 2.5 to 3 times more likely to be killed by a police officer than a White Man. Over 17 percent of African-American victims were unarmed when they were killed, the highest among all races in the United States. Something is wrong. Voices are not being heard. Pleas for justice are being ignored. Inequality is pervasive. James and Maggie come together to share and understand each other, and to recognize the need for action and change.
