Various treatments are available for the infertile couple, ranging from optimizing the current semen parameters with medical therapy to minor surgical procedures and finally to complex sperm retrieval and ART. Technological advancements in assisted reproduction make conceiving a child possible with viable sperm and egg. The primary physiological effect of the gonadotropins is the promotion of gametogenesis and gonadal steroid production. In the male LH stimulates the de novo synthesis of androgens, primarily testosterone, by Leydig cells. The secreted testosterone is required for gametogenesis and for the maintenance of sexual libido and secondary sexual characteristics. Decrease amount of LH production fail to initiate spermatogenesis thus causing oligospermia due to secondary deficiency of testosterone. Testosterone substitution is hence necessary parameter. hCG mock's the effect of LH thus producing testosterone necessary for the development of male gametes.
