Functional Orthopaedic Treatment in orthodontics seeks to correct malocclusion and harmonize the shape of dental arch and orofacial function. They also play a major role in growth modification by altering the growth. Unfortunately, due to bulk and inconvenience caused by removable functional appliances, they failed to achieve patient¿s compliance. In addition, their intermittent wear does not elicit continuous activity which is very essential for promoting skeletal change. Fixed appliances were first introduced in 1910. Since then they have been a great substitute for overcoming the drawbacks and making growth modification easier in patients requiring functional orthopaedic treatment. Their increased patient compliance and ease of handling have made them an essential part of Orthopaedic treatment in the recent years.
