Europe is currently going through a difficult phase. This poses a pedagogical challenge for civic education to shed light on topics relating to European development. The study is divided into two parts: Part I problem areas Brexit, the COVID-19 pandemic with course-setting, the Green Deal and the future of Europe and Part II the learning field Europe to impart basic knowledge for the target group of young people and their accompanying adults.The various national traditions and living and learning conditions as well as the academic conference/University of Vienna September 8-9, 2014 "Europe - Hope and Enemy" encourage students to engage with the topic. Basic knowledge of European political and social history as well as the political system of the EU in the context of civic education and human rights education should be known.
