Knygos aprašymas

Electra of Euripides is a Greek tragedy written by Euripides, a renowned playwright of ancient Greece. The play revolves around Electra, the daughter of King Agamemnon and Queen Clytemnestra, who seeks revenge for her father's murder. The story takes place after the Trojan War, where Agamemnon returns home only to be killed by his wife and her lover, Aegisthus. Electra is left to mourn her father's death and live in poverty, while her mother and Aegisthus rule the kingdom. In the play, Electra is joined by her brother, Orestes, who returns home to avenge their father's death. Together, they plan and execute their revenge, leading to a dramatic and tragic conclusion. The play explores themes of justice, revenge, and the consequences of one's actions. It is considered one of Euripides' most powerful works and a masterpiece of Greek tragedy.1913. The Electra of Euripides has the distinction of being, perhaps, the best abused, and, one might add, not the best understood, of ancient tragedies. The Electra has none of the imaginative splendor, the vastness, the intense poetry, of the tragedy of The Trojan Woman. It is a close-knit, powerful, well-constructed play, as realistic as the tragic conventions will allow, intellectual and rebellious. Its psychology reminds one of Browning or even of Ibsen. In this book, the Electra is translated into English rhyming verse. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
