Periodontal regeneration is the restoration of lost or diminished periodontal tissues including cementum, periodontal ligament, and alveolar bone. Guided tissue regeneration is a surgical procedure with the goal of achieving new bone, cementum, and PDL attachment to a periodontally diseased tooth, using barrier devices or membranes to provide space maintenance, epithelial exclusion, and wound stabilization.4 Periodontal regeneration is a multi factorial process and requires an orchestrated sequence of biological events including cell adhesion, migration, multiplication and differentiation. Periodontal regeneration aims at an increase in the periodontal attachment of a severely compromised tooth, a decrease in pocket depth and no or minimal gingival recession.
