Biochemical Studies of Dump-sites in South-East, Nigeria is a practical oriented study of the effects of selected dump-sites situated along Enugu- PortHarcourt Expressways on soil and air quality as well as the health risks associated with the use of edible and medicinal plants that either grow naturally or cultivated in the waste soils. The work discussed for the first time using baseline data generated from the study, on the risks associated with the use of dump-sites as arable farmlands for the cultivation of edible and medicinal plants as practiced in Nigeria and most developing countries. The data generated in this work advocates for stringent policy against the use of waste soils as compost manures for cultivation of edible and medicinal plants. Also, the report showed that there is urgent need to avoid erecting residential homes around dump-sites vicinity due to the pollution of the surrounding air and sort for proper management of wastes for environmental sustainability.
