Scientific and clinical advances in all fields of medicine are, to a great extent, based on development and practical usage of advanced technological systems. During the past 30 years, three dimensional (3D) diagnostics has been used in virtually all branches of medical practice. However, the inherently high levels of x-ray radiation have limited the application of computerized tomography (CT) in orofacial region only to emergency cases such as tumor diagnostics.The benefits of 3-D imaging apply to every dental discipline, and there is a corresponding trend toward integrating it into dental offices as it plays a role in the identification, diagnosis, and determination of the severity of diseases.Cone-beam CT is almost certainly is beginning to revolutionize dental radiology and has an impact on almost all aspects of dental practice.
